Winter Skin Hacks

Organic Skin CareJessica AndersonComment

If you’re like us at SkinDeep Naturals, winter means dry air and dry skin. You might be running the humidifier day and night and slathering on the lotion, but your skin is still red and cracking. Since this Fort Collins natural skin care company is nestled right along the edge of the Rocky Mountains, we have learned a thing or two about protecting skin in the winter.

Here are 3 winter skin hacks to help you survive until the moisture comes back.

1) Try to use lukewarm water. Yes, we know - we want to jump in a hot bath as much as you do in the winter to warm our bones. But sadly, hot baths, showers, and washing your hands and face in hot water further strips your skin of the oils you so desperately need. When you can handle it, try to make the water less hot. Your skin will thank you.

2) Choose natural lotion. While you may already be using lotion, read the labels carefully. Many lotions from the drug store are petroleum-based, meaning they will dry your skin out more. Even lotions labeled as "natural" have drying ingredients that in no way nourish your skin. Read the ingredients label to make sure you know what you are putting on your skin. Because what goes onto your skin also enters your bloodstream! Check out the various moisturizers we offer at SkinDeep Naturals. Natural ingredients like jojoba oil, organic plant hydrosols, beeswax, coconut oil, and organic essential oils are easier for your skin to soak up and use.

3) Protect your skin when out in the elements. Wearing gloves and scarves over exposed skin can help protect your skin from the wind and cold. Often, our hands bear the brunt of dry skin troubles - so gloves will help your hands especially.

Hopefully implementing a few of these tips will help you get through the next few months of
cold weather. If you live in a cold weather climate like we do - what are your winter hacks for skin trouble? We’d love to hear from you! Contact us today at SkinDeep Naturals.
